A delegation visited Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez on Friday, January 30, 2015. UACJ’s Dean of Engineering sponsored a luncheon and many department heads were present to participate in department-specific working groups. The day ended with a tour of UACJ’s engineering manufacturing labs.
Joining the group was Dr. Menking, IBP; Dr. Peter Martin, Civil Engineering Department Head; Dr. Dave Thompson, Associate Dean College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, and Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station; Dr. Ian Leslie, Mechanical Engineering Department Head; Dr. Delia Valles, Associate Professor, Industrial Engineering; Dr. Imelda Olague, Industrial Engineering and NMSU & IBP; Jaime Ramirez Angulo- NMSU.
The visit produced promising commitments to receive engineering researchers in Las Cruces and to develop projects together.
A breakout meeting was also held with the Director of UACJ’s Masters program in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, Dr. Delia Valles, who serves on the advisory board to the Center for Latin American and Border Studies, and Dr. Menking. The three agreed to work to organize an interdisciplinary symposium around gender issues. A group of UACJ scholars will visit NMSU in May to make plans to host the symposium during international education week which will be observied November 16-20, 2015.
