Institute for Parental Engagement
We have two upcoming events that you will want to be aware of. Both touch upon our efforts to work with other groups to extend a welcome to potential students here at NMSU.
The first is Monday evening, November 18th. The LC Public Schools annually host an Institute for Parental Engagement (IPE) to engage parents that may not have had a strong relationship and awareness of the education system, including steps to move from K-12 to higher ed. This past fall over 250 parents participated and they will “graduate” on Monday evening. We would urge you to consider attending as a representative of NMSU. The event encourages these parents to reach out and learn more about the pathway that enables their children to move successfully onward toward a college degree. The ceremony will be held at the NMSU – DACC East Mesa Auditorium from 6:00 to 8:00.
The next event is the NMSU Fiesta reception that accompanies the kick off of the International Mariachi Conference. For 20 years NMSU has been a major sponsor of this conference that annually draws in excess of 600 high school students (and younger) to our campus. On Wednesday evening, November 20th at 6:00 pm the NMSU Fiesta kick off reception will be held at the Corbett Center Ballroom. This is our chance for the university community to welcome these young students back to our campus. We hope you will stop by for a few minutes to demonstrate our interest and support for these participants.
