On April 29, 2014 the Office of International and Border Programs convened the first meeting of a newly reconstituted IBP Advisory Council. Executive Vice President and Provost, Daniel J. Howard, started the meeting with a statement of priorities and words of encouragement for the “very important” group. He emphasized all aspects of international activity as being important at NMSU, but particularly emphasized the importance of the group’s help in increasing the number of international students studying at NMSU. In essence, he reinforced the message delivered in his February, 2014 Charge to the IBP Advisory Council.
Every college was in attendance, many represented by the dean of the college. The meeting lasted one hour and the main themes discussed were an overview of IBP activities, a new IBP strategic plan that was publicly presented by Cornell Menking, distribution of some funds to faculty via a new “Targeted International Initiatives Grant” that will be funded by IBP, recruiting, a general discussion about international priorities, and education abroad.
The next meeting of the group has not been determined, but an online review of the IBP strategic plan will happen over the next couple of weeks.
A page devoted to the Advisory Council’s activities was also established.
